I have a few pieces that keep hanging in there in my closet, and every time I wear them I am reminded of how much I love them. 💕 Excellent article, Jenny!
I think "specialist" pieces get a bad rap and we often feel pressured to purge them, but this post really demonstrates the value these pieces can hold long-term!
I love reading about stuff like this, like a peek into your life through a piece of clothing. It’s cool that you found a role for this garment and kept it for so long.
I’d say most true cold-weather clothing function as specialists in my wardrobe. I live in the desert, the weather is 90% sunny and usually doesn’t get colder than 40 degrees F, so I don’t get a lot of use out of my one trench coat, my one wool coat, my one down coat. But I keep them anyway and love to wear them when I can!
Come to think of it, it makes sense that some of our best specialists are outerwear or things that protect us from the elements—it’s like getting back to the basic premise of clothing :)
This is such a great series (and great idea for a series!)
Going to reflect on my wardrobe ‘specialists’ and also the 10+ year pieces (curious to know how many I have!)
Thanks so much! Yeah it’s kinda fun to think about, right?

That’s what it’s all about 🥰 thanks Sheila ~

For sure. They can kind of start becoming characters in our wardrobe, makes a cameo for a couple episodes then dips back into the closet hahah
