I haven’t paid for something to be mended yet, but I do hand stitch small holes whenever they pop up. It brings me a lot of joy to make a small repair. I haven’t had a more complicated fix yet, but I’m at my local tailor regularly and I know he could fix something if I needed him to!
Nice!! I could imagine the sense of accomplishment. I actually have a little sewing kit I bought for small mending purposes but haven't used it... something to aspire to...
I love getting things mended! The most random things I have taken to get mended is a pair of socks (hole in the toe -- I just LOVE the tartan print of them and they are otherwise in great condition!) and a pair of 90 cotton / 10 spandex bike shorts that just needed a patch on the bum!
Love seeing what you still have after so many years. Only one thing in my wardrobe that's over 10 years - a denim jacket that still miraculously fits even after weight and muscle gain.
Nice! Denim jackets seem meant to last forever. I have a Gap one that is pretty much at 10 years but unfortunately does not fit well anymore after baby (but the Levi’s 90s trucker one I got last year is nice and loose and here for the long haul!)
TY :) omg I was like what is that familiar phrase that describes what I’m doing but I just can’t think of right now… it was new lease on life 😆 thanks for scratching that itch
Congrats on your 20 year anniversary with your denim 🤭 that's impressive! I haven't paid for mending, but I'm seriously considering it because I have a bomber jacket with a very unique print that has a few holes in the sleeve. My diy mending doesn't look great lol.
Thank you :) That bomber sounds like a special piece to hold on to! Paying for mending does also help with time savings of course haha. Come to think of it, it feels kinda nice to hand something off to a professional to do their thing, in the age of AI and all...
I was going to say I’ve had many a thing mended but I don’t think that’s true—I’ve had many a thing altered, which is a totally different thing. I actually reached out to my regular tailor (we fell out of touch after I learned how to sew and realized most of the things I wanted done involved simple hemming 😅) and she’s still at it—and I signed up for her to teach me how to replace/alter elastics!!
Oh, I meant to say: I love this series. It’s so interesting to see pieces with longevity (esp. that black dress, what a win) when in my closet, I don’t have things that have been around that long.
I know! I had to really think if this was my first time because I've definitely done alterations (if nothing else then my wedding dress...). Enjoy your mending journey!
And thank you! Glad you're enjoying this. I hope a robust #10YearCloset becomes the norm...let's check in in 2035? 😉
Haha I love the energy, but I do have a few things that could cross that 10-year mark sooner than that! Though I think the bigger issue is, would I continue to keep them that long?
Got a few pieces on watch now 👀 it’s funny, I know which ones I’d bet on to cross the finish line and I know which ones probably won’t. I love wardrobe tracking apps, makes it so much easier to figure out what’s close to 10 😅

Yay, this is encouraging!! To know that you can bring in all sorts of things... I'm sure I will have more random stuff to repair in the future.

Those near-20-year-old shorts are hella impressive! And mending is such an act of love—glad you were able to give these pieces a new lease on life.

Maybe something will quietly make it through! It’s most poignant when all of sudden you realize, hey, this has been here that long now??

Yeahhhh for sure, I need to make a 10YC collection on Indyx. So many possibilities for collections!!
