I'm currently wearing probably my favorite ten year old item, my grey calvin klein (probably not authentic, I got it at TJ Maxx) fleece that I got in 2013. I can't find an exact picture online, but it's pretty plain –– zip-up with zippered pockets (a must). I've worn it on four continents and it's still going strong. I'm actually wearing it as I type this.

It's frustrating to see people claim that simply because they have to buy unethical fashion, that that inevitably means that they'll use it and throw it away immediately. I have a lot of "fast fashion" holdovers from when I knew less and had less control over what I bought (was a teenager, etc) that's at or nearing a decade in age. Buying into one part of an unethical process doesn't mean I can't refuse to generate more waste!!!

4 continents!! that's a fun stat for 10 year closet items haha

And totally re: fast fashion. I def have decade-old fast fashion pieces too...although word on the street is that they used to be better quality and now less so... welp!

This is such a great series! I’m 38 and have recently been struck by the fact that there are some items in my closet that are 15 (and even a couple 20) years old that I still wear. It’s wild! I totally agree that buying pieces you’ll love/wear for a long time... even maybe over the course of your whole life is the best way to be sustainable. I’m trying to work on doing this more.

I love the puffer vest! The print makes it quite unusual and special. I actually have a 18 year old North Face puffer vest that I still wear. It’s still perfect and looks brand new!

p.s. glad I came across your page! ☺️

Oooh! I love the idea of telling the story of each individual piece we own that has lived with us for a decade at least
